OMG! Another contest!

by Jason on April 11, 2006

Spring is in swing, and a trip to the post office is another excuse for me to go outside. You could always help out by buying a shirt, or you could enter our sweet caption contest! That’s right, we’ve got two contests going on this week. Whoever comes up with the best caption for the linked photo gets a copy of Vegan Freak, and we’ll pick the winners in a week. Link.

Inspired by Dagda Samildanc‘s submission of someone’s orange peel art, I’m opening this one up to the citrus-loving masses: post your best orange-related artwork in the comments and we’ll send a copy of Vegan Freak to the best entry that’s in there by March 17th, because it’s St. Patrick’s Day, and we are oddly attracted to the colours green and orange. As always, if you don’t have an image host, you can email us the file.

Sexonator 2006 – the results are in!

by Jason on February 1, 2006

Well, it’s official: y’all are a very sexy group of vegans. It was almost too close to call, but as of this morning, there were two people at the top without any ties, and as luck would have it, we’ve got one representative from each gender. This was a super fun contest, and thanks for sending in your pictures! Read on for the winners… [click to continue…]

So is my mom going to win the Sexonator or what? Shameless plugs aside, just wanted to remind everyone that we’re announcing the winners on Wednesday, so if you haven’t already voted, go forth and help select the sexiest vegan pornstars of 2006! Link.

Sexonator 2006!

by Jason on December 26, 2005

Chris from PETA wrote in to let me know that they’re starting up their annual “America’s Sexiest Vegetarian” contest, and while Canadians are eligible, sexy vegan pornstars from Mexico, Brazil, and Guyana apparently aren’t American enough. While we think the contest is totally fun and urge you to enter, we had a fun time with a little contest of our own a few years back, so here’s the official thread for Sexonator 2006! Read on for rules and whatnot. Update: the results are in! [click to continue…]

News-free news: we’re off to New York City in a few hours, returning Thursday. I’m not sure what our connectivity’s going to be like at our hotel, but with any luck we’ll have some fun photos and stories to share either here or at OYT. Even if we’re rendered blissfully interweb-free, I’ve post-dated a few stories for the next few days to tide everyone over until we get back, which will doubtless be entertaining, unless something bad happens on our flight, in which case it’ll just be creepy… In any event, apologies if some of the stories are dupes for the next bit. Now where’s my American phrasebook…

…And the winner is…

by Jason on September 9, 2005

Hey, remember the August “name the cow” contest? Leading chronological experts have advised us that it is in fact September, so it’s time to pick a winner: JessBreath, you’ve just won a signed copy of Meat Market: Animals, Ethics, and Money by Erik Marcus for the name “Pornicus.” But that’s not all! It was a tough decision, and we’ve decided to send out a runner up prize to Seth for “Masie” – maybe it’s because it was the first entry, but it stuck in our head all month. Both of you, please email me with your contact info along with any details you’d like added to the signing (like your name, or “my love for you burns brighter than the sun,” etc., as long as we get the info before Sunday). For those of you who didn’t get the nod but still want a signed book, Erik will be at the Vegetarian Food Fair here in Toronto this weekend, along with T. Colin Campell, Karen Davis, Sarah Kramer, Jenna and Bob Torres, Brenda Davis, Brendan Brazier, Tom Barnard, and 12,000 or so visitors. Stop by and say hi, and in the meantime, long live Pornicus!

The August contest: name that cow

by Jason on August 16, 2005

We’ve been a bit negligent for the past 4 and a half years: while we’re normally quite diligent about using pronouns like “he” and “she” in place of “it” when it comes to writing about animals, we’ve been rather dismissive of a certain cow we’ve been looking at every day – the one that adorns the top of every VP page. To deal with this, and the fact that we’re long overdue for a contest, it’s time to name the cow and carrot. Post your entries in the comments, and the winner (as picked by me and VL) will receive a signed copy of Meat Market by Erik Marcus. Rules and regulations follow… [click to continue…]

by Jason on May 14, 2005

For those of you who track these kinds of things, VP turned 4 years old yesterday. Just sayin’.

We’ve lost 3 hard drives in the past two weeks here at Thrust Labs, and the most recent to go was my primary laptop (I’ll thank y’all in advance for not asking me about my backup strategy…) Anyway, I’ve lost a few days of email, so if you sent me anything over the weekend, you might want to send it again (shirt orders go through a different system, and will be shipped as per usual.) I’ve also lost my submissions queue, but great news! I’ve salvaged this one, courtesy of Dave Noisy. It’s cute and creepy, in a “I’m keeping a kitten prisoner” kind of way. Enjoy, and talk (nicely!) amongst yourselves while I pick through the digital wreckage of my iLife. With any luck, I’ll be back tomorrow.
